God’s Passionate Driven Leader

A leader with the right spirit knows that individuals, regardless of their position, have the same basic set of needs, rights, and expectations as he or she. A leader with the right style may be able to get people to do what needs to be done, but the grace-full leader whose focus is spirit as well as style can motivate people to want to do what needs to be done.

When we focus simply on leadership style, we find ourselves concentrating on the wrong things.

  • The bottom line rather than the horizon
  • Mistakes rather than possibilities
  • Control rather than confidence
  • Reputation rather than relationships

When we recognize that there is more to leadership than style, the focus shifts from method to spirit. We:

  •  Coach rather than control
  • Mentor as well as manage
  • Strengthen others, not just supervise their work
  • Empower, not just employ
  • Create shared visions.

A spiritual leader has to be willing to take risk. The turtle will never reach her destination if it doesn’t take out its head.  Having a willingness to take on risks means also to have a willingness to step outside your comfort zone .  Anyone who is too afraid to step outside their comfort zone is also too afraid to take the risks that are often needed as a leader.  1 Thessalonians 2:2b says But with the help of our God we dared to tell you his gospel in spite of strong opposition.” Show me a c church with leaders willing to take steps out on faith and I’ll show you a growing Church.

Billy Graham said it like this, “Courage is contagious. When a brave man or woman takes a stand, the spines of others are stiffened.”  Godly leaders are willing to take risks, and that is who you are; you are a Godly risk-taker and God is going to get all the glory in your life.

A spiritual leader stays constant until the end. God uses to the maximum those that remain faithful and constant until the end. A shepherd of sheep does not run when he sees that the wolf is coming.

Moreover, it is [essentially] required of stewards that a man should be found faithful [proving himself worthy of trust]. In this verse we see it is a basic requirement for a Christian (leader) to be found faithful. What is faithful? Faithful is one who is loyal or constant. Christians today need to be loyal and unmovable. It vitally important that leaders be constant and loyal to God. Why? Because it will help me to be constant and loyal to my family and ministry. Being faithful is staying constant with God and staying constant with your responsibilities. “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” Romans 12:12Romans 12:12

be constant in your Lord and Saver. God will show you more than you ever dreamed he would.

Then you will pray Paul’s prayer:

“O God, awaken and sustain my hope in you. Be my treasure now. And be my inheritance always. Please open the eyes of my heart to see the wonder that you are. Grant me the spiritual taste buds to taste and see and savor that all you are for us in Jesus is better than all the world. And so sustain my hope. And may this hope sustain my joy in tribulation and may this joy sustain my endurance and may this endurance sustain my love for people, and may my love make you irresistibly attractive to the world.”

“What’s a leader? What’s leadership?” we asked at the beginning. Hopefully our brief glance at the personal qualities of a spiritual leader has given us some answers. Though differing in personality and varying in gifts, Christian leaders have this in common. They follow the Leader and oversee His work in such a way that by their example and influence they inspire others to follow Him, too.
