Family founded in Christ

         Somehow clear lines of right and wrong of understanding what “family values” means were lost under the blanket of a “do your own thing” mentality. Children don’t grow well in the soil of moral contradiction, moral hypocrisy, and moral ambiguity. In the widest of all this change, people are growing morally numb. In the book of Deuteronomy, God gave divine instruction several times. In Deuteronomy 11:18-20Deuteronomy 11:18-20

we read, “Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds.” Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and your gates. . .” Why did God instruct his people to write his words on the gates and doorframes of their houses? Because by doing so, they would be declaring to the whole world that their homes were holy homes whose residents were separated from the world and living under the regulation of the King of kings and Lord of lords.

       What would be the result of following these instructions? “Your days and the days of your children [will] be many in the land that that Lord swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth” Deuteronomy 11:21Deuteronomy 11:21

. God himself promised that families who did these things would be blessed, successful, and wise.

Let’s look at the wreckage of our culture these currents have deposited at our doorstep:

  • men who relinquish their biblical role of leading and providing for their families;
  • the “supermom” myth;
  • a trivialized view of the sacredness and permanency of marriage;
  • “safe sex” rather the bible-ordained sex;
  • no-fault divorce;
  • new definitions of what constitutes a “family”;
  • the attitude that daycare is an adequate replacement for an involved mom;
  • the tragic myth that human life begins whenever we say it does;
  • the misguided stance that homosexuality is a valid, acceptable behavioral lifestyle;
  • the notion that women find their ultimate worth and value through their pursuit of careers;
  • sons who find their way to manhood through a maze of seductive printed and celluloid images, rather than under the tutelage of mature male mentor;
  • schools which are “valves-neutral,“ rather than values-rich;
  • the celebration, rather than shunning of lewdness, perversion and vulgarity;
  • a government that takes more and more responsibility for our children’s.

        We can go with the flow or we can stand tall and fight. In times of extreme darkness, God has his people, his children, who want to live in holiness and separation for God all their lives.

        Let us learn to revere the word of God and the God of the word. May we be delivered from self-indulgence, from gluttony, from the love of this world and from laziness. May we become people of the book and practice true, biblical family values, that we and our children will bring glory to God and in the process become glorious ourselves. May God help us live for Him, Amen.
